Problem with SRM5 installation

0
0

Hello,

I installed SRM 5 on a vCenter 5 server and the installation went fine. The problem is that I can't see the SRM tab in vCenter and I get this error message :

Call "VirtApplianceManager.IsVirtualAppliance" for object "Integrity.VirtApplianceManager" on Server "MyServer" failed.

Is it a configuration issue in vCenter or should I re-install SRM?

Thank you.

Frank

Reprotect from HQ to DR >>>> Pass

Test from DR to HQ >>>> Failed with error (with the same recovery plan that use to failover from HQ to DR)

this is what it says :

Error - Failed to create snapshots of replica devices. Internal error: std::exception 'class Vmacore::InvalidArgumentException' "Invalid argument".

it's error at step 4 = Create Writeable Storage Snapshot

what I need to check ? where the problem is ? does anyone face it before ?

thanks in advance.

EMC RPA SRA throttling

Hello,

I've recently been faced with a WAN link saturation issue between our protected and recovery sites.  Looking further, it quickly became apparent that the RPA replication was the culprit.  Bandwidth throttling is relatively straight forward to set up within the RPA GUI, but one has to gain control from SRM to do.  Here's the rub - as soon as you give full control back to the SRM SRA, those throttling settings get lost, and the replication uses every bit of the WAN pipe.  Ive' googled for any configuration settings I might be able to make w/in the SRA itself, but find nothing.  Any advice?  That would be flipping sweet.

Extra vms after a reprotect

0

I am using SRM 5.1 and performed a recovery and reprotect on a group of servers this morning. Everything finished successfully but I now have an extra vm in the (new) recovery site that appear to be a combo of the vmid and name of the vms that are being protected. Placeholder vms are there as well. I assume this isn't normal. Has anyone else seen this behavior? I haven't found anything like this searching the internet.

SRM upgrade question

0

I'm attempting to upgrade SRM 5.1.1 to 5.1.2. I'm being prompted by the installer as to whether I want to overwrite the current registration with Vcenter.

It doesn't appear I have any other choice. I assume this normal for an upgrade, is that correct?

Another upgrade question

I performed the upgrade in both sites and noticed that it is telling me to reinstall the SRA.

Should I have uninstalled them before hand? There isn't an upgrade to the one I'm using.

SRM DataCenter migration Question

0

Hello,

We are looking to use SRM to migrate VMs from one DataCenter to another.

One concern is the footprint SRM leaves on the VM that has been replicated.

We are using vSphere replication.

Question:

If we power on the replicated VM in the new DataCenter and an issue occurs with the application is there any footprint left on the original VM that could cause issues with powering it back on?

ie. We basically revert back to the original VM. Does SRM need a clean up before such task?

Thanks in advance for any info.

Peter.

SRM Service for Site Recover Manager 5.1.2 Starts then stops after initial installation

I have been having the above problem whilst trying to install SRM 5.1 into our environment...

SRM version  VMware-srm-5.1.2-1527967

VCenter version 5.1.0

Vcenter and SRM Server - Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise

SQL Server - SQL 2008 R2

Troubleshooting I have already tried

1.) Confirmed 64bit DSN is connecting to db

2.) Confirmed SQL Schema and db username are the same. Schema is default.

3.) Username (which is a windows domain name) has dbo, bulk creator etc rights

4.) Username has Full Local Admin rights on the VCENTER Server where SRM has been installed

5.) Changed the service from local system to the domain name utilised above

The installation completes successully, but the service stops immediately after starting.  The db gets fully populated with all the SRM tables.

I am receiving the rror messages highlighted in this KB

VMware KB: SRM service fails to start and exits with error: Panic: TerminateHandler called

however I can confirm that all these settings are configured correctly...

After attempting about 20 installations trying different options I don't know now how to resolve this issue...  Has anyone come across this issue and can possibly suggest a way to get past it.

Placeholder Virtual Hardware Version different than active VM

Hi All,

This is my first posting to the community so please be gentle :-)

I'm looking after a ESXi 5.1 U2 environment with SRM 5.5 and have a concern I hope you can help me with?!

After a upgrade of the all the virtual hardware from V7 and V8 to V9 across the environment recently, I have noticed that is not reflected in the SRM placeholder information on those placeholder VMs. I'm hoping this is just a cosmetic issue, but I don't want to go into a DR situation and find this is an issue then (Or find it is systematic of a bigger issue!). I know I can do a test failure to confirm but I'm not in that position at the moment as company policy says I can only do the test during a maintenance window which is not for some time....

I thought the easiest option would be to "Recreate Placeholder" in [Protection Groups] but this is greyed out (Which I assume is because the protection status is "OK")... The protection status is giving me some comfort but this mismatch in information is giving me a bad feeling....

Your help and guidance would be appreciated!

SRM - Device found is neither of the SAN type nor of the NAS type

I have recently been trying to test a newly installed SRM installation utilising array based replication on Netapp storage

I have mirrored my volumes and qtrees at Netapp level.  These are synchronised.  I can see this under the Devices Tab in the Array Manager section.

The only issue i have is when I leave the check box ticked "Replicate changes to reovery site".. I get the error "Device found is neither of the SAN type nor of the NAS type"

If I remove the checkbox and do not try and get SRM to do a final replication it works fine...  The bizarre thing is, I can see that when this check box is ticked, a snapmirror begins transferring onn the Netapp and completes ok, but SRM displays the "Error - Failed to sync data on replica device " and "Device found is neither of the SAN type nor of the NAS type" stopping the Test from completing.

Have to repair connection to log in

I recently updated SRM to version 5.1.2. I had issues with connecting after upgrade which seemed to be solved by repairing the connection.

I'm now finding that I frequently have to repair the connection to log in.

Any ideas as to what would cause this and how to resolve it?

Test Interrupted, wont reset.

We have a recovery plan that works perfectly many times for plan testing.  I was running it this morning and during the plan I interrupted it.

The plan is now at a "Test Interrupted" state. I need to run the test agin to get the plan to reset.  Each time i try to run the test again the SRM service on the recovery site crashes.  The plan is put into a perpetual "In Progress" state.

How can I clear this plan and reset it back to ready?

The array manager is EMC recoverpoint.test interrupted.jpg

SRM v5.5 EMC VMAX errors - prepareFailover and testFailoverStart

During a test failover, I get the following...

Error - Failed to create snapshots of replica devices. Failed to create snapshot of replica device 0F78. SRA command 'testFailoverStart' failed for device '0F78'. An error occurred while performing testfailover start operation.

In the SRA logs...

[08/02 00:31:46  04012                      0642  SymmUtil::SymmDevListSync                ] [ERROR]: Failed SymDevListSync() on Symm [000295700431].

[ERROR]: [SYMAPI_C_AUTHZ_NOT_AUTHORIZED : The caller is not authorized to perform the requested operation]

[08/02 00:31:46  04012                      8624  TestFailoverStartCommand::RunOnDevices   ] [ERROR]: Failed to selectively sync target symm devices

During an actual failover (of the test VM), I get...

Error - Failed to demote source device '0A36'. SRA command 'prepareFailover' failed for device '0A36'. An error occurred while preparing for failover on stand alone devices. Please check EmcSrdfSra log file for more information on the error.

Any thoughts I want we need to fix on the EMC side?  In regards to permissions, our domain account for each vCenter box is added to the VMAX authorization lists with storageadmin role.

Setup info

I am using SRM v5.5.1 build 1647061 with vCenter 5.5 build 1945287 on both sides.  I installed EMC Solutions Enabler and the SRDF adapter from VMware on Win 2012 boxes at both sites.  Everything configured properly.

SRM 5.1.2 plug in install

I'm attempting to install the 5.1.2 SRM plug in on a user's PC and am seeing the error below:

"An existing version of VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager Plugin is already installed on this machine that does not support upgrades.

Please remove the existing version and run setup again to continue."

The plug in wasn't installed previously so there's nothing to remove.

Any ideas for a workaround?

SRA for IBM Storewize - update proecedure question

0
0

Hi,

I've to update SRA for IBM Storewize V7000 installed on working SRM to latest version (2.3.0).

I've checked User Guide and Release Notes but I can't find any information about update procedure - so may question is - can it be done without uninstalling previous version of SRA ?

I've installed SRAs in the past but this is first time I need to upgrade it on live system (of course I'll take snapshots of SRM VMs before starting process) and so far I can't find a lot of details about how to do it.

So help is appreciated

Do we even need SRM with a three-member Exchange 2013 DAG?

0
0

My organization uses SRM to fail over Exchange 2010 LUNs in DR situations.

Currently, we have two mailbox servers in our DAG and both reside on the same two LUNs on the same SAN.  If a disaster or failover happens, we make the DR LUNs on the DR SAN "live".

We're currently planning a move to Exchange 2013.

With the following setup, is SRM even relevant to us anymore?

- DAG setup.

- Three mailbox servers in three separate locations; on three separate SANs.

- One active mailbox database copy, two passive copies (each site will have active and passive DB copies).

With the proposed environment above, is it even necessary to have SRM in place for our Exchange LUNs?

If we had a disaster affecting a single location, Exchange would (theoretically) automatically turn the appropriate passive databases into active ones in the remaining locations.  I'm sure we'd have to make sure DNS is set up correctly so that in a failover situation, Outlook clients could reach the non-failed CAS servers / mailbox servers.

I think the point of having SRM now is that the whole Exchange environment sits on a single SAN.  If that SAN goes down, the DR LUNs on the other SAN can be made "live".  With the proposed environment, we would have three geographically separate SANs with DAG members on each.

Do we even need SRM with a three-member Exchange 2013 DAG?

SRM installation privileges

Hello everyone,

I have to install for a client of mine SRM 5.1 but I have not all administrator rights on the vcenter.

For reasons of security can not authorize me all the permits, you know what I'd have to activate to install and manage SRM?

Thank you very much

Consistancy is Managed By SRM , what if Change to Manage by Recover Point Temporarily ?

0

HI All,

Setup is VC 5.5 , SRN 5.5 and VMAX ,  Storage Team created a Consistency Group which has multiple LUN, and consistency is managed by SRM and thing are working fine in production. I would like to know the  Impact on Vmware side if Storage Team change consistency group to Manage by Recover point temporarily. There some options on consistency group which only enabled when its managed by only recover point.
