At our Datacenter we are currently running ESXi 6 which we have used SRM 8.1 but we want to upgrade ESXi to 6.7

1-Please tell me is this necessary for SRM to have same ESXi on two sides (Protected Site ,Recover Site) ?

2-What should be the same version (without ESXi) on both sides ?

Please tell me your references ..

thanks

SRM Replication - VM with two addresses on the same Interface.

I have a scenario to replicate a single VM with vSphere 6 and SRM 6.1.

This VM has two addreses on the same interface. 192.168.10.11 and 192.168.10.12 for example.

When I try to create a recovery plan I couldn´t find how to customise these addresses to 192.168.20.11 and 192.168.20.12 for example.

The limit is one addres per interface ?

Does anyone knows how to cutomise two addresses on recovery plan ?

Thanks in advance.

Dears,

As you have seen from the title, we have a VNX 5200 storage and i'm trying to find the compatibility with SRM to deploy iy at our DC.

However, I see there are multiple types in the page below and i'm confused a bit if you can help me out.

VMware Compatibility Guide - sra

Our VNX 5200 is unified (Block and File).

Thanks.

SRM pairings in a 1 to many scenario

I have a SRM instance in a protected site (Site A) paired to another SRM instance in a recovery site (Site B). If I need to setup another recovery site (Site C), can I use the existing SRM instance of Site A and pair it with a SRM instance in Site C? Or, do I need to setup new SRM instances in both sites A and C and then pair them? I do realize that a given VM can only be protected once. A link to the official docs would be helpful.

Replication Recovery Failing with Error: Unable to reconfigure the recovered virtual machine 'xxxxxxxxx'.

Hi guys,

I messed up a VM, and trying to recover it from Site Recovery. But when I try to recover the VM, I get the following error on Site Recovery: Unable to reconfigure the recovered virtual machine 'xxxxxxxxx'.

and on vcenter I get the following error: Unable to write VMX file: /vmfs/volumes/c536b434-466de8ce-0000-000000000000/xxxxxxxxx/xxxxxxxxx.vmx. An error occurred while writing dictionary file "/vmfs/volumes/c536b434-466de8ce-0000-000000000000/xxxxxxxxx/xxxxxxxxx.vmx": 16 (Device or resource busy).

The backups are going to windows server share and I tried changing all the permissions set to everyone with full permission but I get the same error still. I'm running latest versions.

Any help will be GREATLY appreciated!

Thank you.

SRM License

Hi,

vCenter 6.5

SRM 6.1

Storage base replication

i'd like to add additional 100 vm to a new site recovery protection group with a new recovery plan, I have purchased the licenses from VMware but unsure how to assign them or even expand the current license capacity from 230 to 330 to accommodate the new Protection Group. I have added the new 100 license to vCenter, but when i create a new protection group with recovery plan it then shows I'm consuming more than the capacity. Its not using the Newly purchased License.

Also, while i'm on the subject of SRM, Can i create multiple Recovery plans for a single protection group. I have added 50 plus VMs to a LUN, I want to DR a group across. Every time i try to create a new Recovery plan it only gives me the option to select the Protection group, not VMs from that group. Is it one recovery plan for one protection group?

vSphere Replication without SRM

We used to have licensing for Site Recovery Manager (SRM) but no longer.   We do however utilize vSphere Replication (VR).

Following decommissioning of SRM, and deleting the SRM server, VR works fine however still getting error

The SRM server was deleted whilst running vSphere 5.5.

Current version now is vSphere 6.7 U3.

VMWare SRM with RecoverPoint EX to replicate two arrays to a single one

We have two storage arrays on which we need to protect VMs each with its own RecoverPoint pair which replicate to a single Array in our recovery site.

This environment was working correctly when we had a single array in each location, but after we added another array it is functional from a RecoverPoint perspective but see errors in VMWare SRM.

All three array managers are in error state with the original Array manager throwing error "SRA command 'discoverDevices' didn't return a response the other two arrays have errors of "Cannot find matching consistency group at remote site for xxxxxx" which are the consistency groups from the original array.

EMC states this is supported, but on a similar configuration on HDS this was not supported. Has anyone implemented this solution before and gotten it to work?

Note that this environment is still running 5.1 for the next couple of weeks after which it will be upgraded to vCenter 5.5 and SRM 5.8

Thank you

Replication errors due to insufficient space

$

I am using Site Recovery 8.1 and I have had a couple of errors because a datastore in the remote site ran out of space. For a couple of the VMs, I get a status of Error (RPO Violation) or just Error. The last error is "Unable to complete the reconfiguration task at remote site for replication group 'somevmname' (managed object ID: 'GID-afca78f6-dc62-4099-a7d8-XXXXXXXXXXXX'): task 'HTID-4ade7936-1d6a-4fba-b580-XXXXXXXXXXXX'."

This error did not resolve itself once I free some space. I tried to reconfigure replication to use another datastore and the reconfigure failed with the same error. I have not tried to remove and add the replication again because the source VM has snapshots I can't delete at this time. At this time, the last instance sync point was 10 minutes ago.

I have search the communities and google, but I only found questions with no answers. Has anyone seen this before and found a solution?

Thanks,

Tim

Some of the other errors I got from VMs using the full remote datastore are:

The storage for datastore path '[] somevmname/hbrdisk.RDID-7a6bea37-4346-4052-a41b-0d9b9601d0f3.97687.XXXXXXXXXXXXXX.vmdk' is locked.

The sync progress at 15% for the past several days.

An obvious one.

Insufficient storage space on device for datastore path '[DS999] anothername/hbrdisk.RDID-27ebda6e-25e2-4be5-b58e-3b405b820794.96895.XXXXXXXXXXXXXX.vmdk'.

SRM licence upgrade from 6.x to 8.x

Hi,

I have a client for which I just deployed a new SRM Version 8.2.0, Build 14761905. After configuring the 2 sites and integrate with SRA from NetAPP, the old license keys does not work anymore and for now I'm warned about running on "expiring license". Any guidance on how to fix that?

Cheers

Report Log on SRM

Hi everyone

I try to attach the result of the base script on windows vm with the test on SRM. I'd like to have a basic result of application that run on a recovery machine.

1) My base script do this on the VM (also on the original VM)

@ECHO OFF

SET MyProcess=Calculator.exe

ECHO "%MyProcess%"

TASKLIST | FINDSTR /I "%MyProcess%"

IF ERRORLEVEL 1 (ECHO Process NOT Running) ELSE (ECHO "%MyProcess%" Running)

This script is a "demo" and check only if the process calculator exist.

On the recovery plan, under post-script of the Guestos i run

C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /c C:\myScripts\myGuestScript.bat > c:\myScripts\srmoutput.log 2>&1

As I understand on the guide of the link

https://docs.vmware.com/en/VMware-Site-Recovery/services/srmaas-admin.pdf?hWord=N4IghgNiBcIGoFkDqYBOBTA+gcQK7oGcAXAeQAdM…

On the page 64 there is the variable "VMware_GuestOp_OutputFile" to use, and the guide tell that is inside this file (4k is the max output) is inserted on the report of srm.

I try to do this but srm , even in the file there is data  (error or not) when I finish my test job I can't find any additional information about this even the "success" of the job.

Failed to retrieve pairs from Site Recovery Manager Server

I've two vCenters joined to same platform services controller. When I'm logged in using administrator@vsphere.local, there's no issue and I'm able to do everything within Site Recovery Manager.. I've an AD Integrated authentication setup in and my account is a member of Administrators@vsphere.local group. It was a member before installation of SRM as I read in VMware documentations that if it's not a member before, then you need to manually provide permissions.. So It seems my AD domain account has all the rights required but I'm unable to connect to sites when I'm logged in using domain\username.

SRM1.PNG

srm2.PNG

srm3.PNG

So now I'm logged in with administrator@vsphere.local account and I can see that all the permissions are fine.

srm5.PNG

In addition to this, I've restarted SRM and Web Client services on both vCenters.. Any help would be much appreciated..

The weird thing is SRM is not even prompting me for credentials which it should be and I do have Client Integration Plugin installed and working in my browser..

SRM Migration to Appliance Issues

Hey Guys,

Has anyone hit issues migrating from Windows based SRM virtual machines to the Photon based appliance deployments?

The issue I am seeing is when I am importing the SRM data into the appliances. During the process it will prompt you for credentials and then prompts for the VC certificate thumbprint. After entering this it prompts for the SSO creds and throws the below error.

Enter Thumbprint for vCenter '': 'xxxxxxxx'

Enter SSO Administrator username: administrator@vsphere.local

*** Errors reported!!! Failed to configure SRM VA

*** Exit code 2

Anyone come across this? Any thoughts or inputs?

SRM Import and Export Feature:

My second attempt was to export the SRM config from the GUI and then I spun up two new SRM appliances. registered them with the vcenter Servers howeverduring the import process, it asks for array pair manager creds and then gives an error "An unexpected error occurred. Close the Wizard"

Version details are as below:

vC 6.7 U3a,14792544

SRM 8.2, 14761905

Upgrading to SRM 8.2

Hi,

Current SRM Version: 8.1.1

I would like to upgrade to SRM 8.2.0.2 Windows instance before migrating to the 8.2.0.2 Linux based Virtual Appliance.

In VMware documentation, it states to log onto the SRM server, navigate to the SRM installation directory and run the script 'export-srm-data.bat'.

I currently do not see this script, is this script available once I upgrade from Windows instance 8.1.1 to 8.2.0.2?

Kind Regards,

Zoen

SRM 8,2 for Data center to Data center DR failover

$

Hi Folks,

Using SRM 8.2 for data center to data center DR failover: What is the best alternative to VxLAN (Stretched vLAN)?

Info: Data centers are separated by 100's of miles with redundant high speed (10G)circuits

Info: VMs are accessed by internal users only.

Info: Application requires IP addresses to be the same after fail over.Opt: Is a disjoint layer 2 network (Cisco) a viable option?

Opt: Is there a Dynamic DNS solution?

SRM License Key Invalid

Have setup SRM 8.2 with vCenter 6.7 U3 using evaluation. Now when we go to add an SRM license, we get an invalid key error? I tried another SRM license key that I had and same message, I tried the same license keys on other vCenters, Still get the same message.

I found the following KB 2051335 VMware Knowledge Base and whilst not actually getting the Error: License file missing -5 message, I did perform a modify install to re-register the vCenter but still no joy.

Has anyone experience this issue?

SRM 8.2 Failover test error after migration to virtual appliance

$

I have a client that recently had their vSphere environment upgraded to 6.7 u3 with external Platform Services controllers.

I just completed an upgrade/migration from Windows based SRM 6.5.1 to appliance based 8.2.

Everything looks good, however, when I run a failover test I get a customization error on the external PSC VM.

The error code is 255.

I found a document that says the tmp folder is blocked from execution. The document is for basic VMs, NOT a PSC appliance.

It gives instructions for changing the VMware tools conf file to use a different temp dir.

I am unable to find the file in the areas the document outlines.

Has anybody had this issue?

Know where the file lives?

Different fix?

Thanks

Jim

Re-Tag VMs and after SRM Migration

$
0

• We have two sites, Site1 and Site2.

• We have vCenters in Enhanced Linked Mode

• We have Cross-Site NSX (Active/Active same SSO domain)

• VM Tags defined on one vCenter are propagated to both Sites due to Enhanced Linked Mode.

• SRM failover of a VM does not bring the VMs tag assignment with it.

When we failover VMs using SRM, say from Site1 to Site2, the VM Tags don't come with them. This is the normal behavior of SRM using vSphere Replication. VM Tag Assignment is held in the vCenter Server and is not a part of VM metadata.

This means that after DR event, when we have run our SRM Recovery Plan, VMs that have been failed over, for example, to Site2, don't have their original tags.

Is there a powershell script to use during the Post Power On Steps to re-assign those tags on the vms in the Recovery Plan once the servers are failed over?

Not Configured VM in Protection Group

Hi

my problem is in Site Recovery manager , Protection Group

when i added VM to Replicate , i don't add protection group in that wizard after that when add VM to New Protection Group it Completely done and Configuration totally Success.

But Protection Group Detail Show that Not Configured VM is 1 while VM Protection State is OK .

I test every way and solution but not answered like recreate Placeholder , Restore Placeholder , Reconfigure VM in Replication , ...

In Addition in Recovery Site Placeholder and Instance of VM Correctly Exist.

Any Idea ?
