move to distributed virtuals witch

Hi all

I'm planing an ESXi cluster 4.1 upgrade to 5.1.

The cluster is managed by a vcenter 5.1 with an active srm 5.1 implementation.

Reading some documentation I understand that most of object like cluster name , vmfs upgrade from 3 to 5 etc..is completely supported , but nothing about moving from VSS to DVS on the protected site.

Has anyone experience about ? does we ensure about to move to DVS also on the recovery site?

thanks in advance :-D

Hello Experts, SRM VMs is not Reachable after Planned Migration

I have SRM 5.1 Installed and configured for EMC VNX Array Based Replication. The Tests were successful and when we tried for a Planned Recovery - the VMs are UP on the SR Site and can communicate (Ping) each other internally; but when we try to ping from any other computer or try to remote into the VMs - it's not reachable "Destination Host Unreachable"

Any inputs would greatly help.

Thanks in advance.

How to run site specific scripts for a virtual machine?

I need to run a script which will update the Virtual Machine IP's to a DNS server.  I plan to use the dns_update.cmd.

1. Can I create Recovery Plan steps that are site specific?

2. Does VMware SRM SDK provide API's to determine the Site name?

Hi

Does anyone have an idea about change the Recovery Plan History Report TIme zone?

I know the esxi time does not support changing time zone

Is there any relationship between the report and the ESXi time zone?

Hi all,

I have two site A e B with SRM 5.8 on them. They are been installaed with the default SRM Plugin configuration.

Now I would add a third SRM on them, but I don't know which are the steps to accomplish this goal without lost all settings at the previous sites.

Any suggestion?

Thank you very much.

Veeam 7.x vs SRM 5.5

I am looking for some documentation comparing SRM and Veeam backup and Replication 7.x. We are specifically looking at the advantages for site recovery. For example I am looking for any advantages one has over the other when failing over between sites. I understand SRM is not intended to be used for backups. Thank you in advance.

Same SRM version between sites, but different ESXi versions

Like a lot of folks, my recovery site is populated with older hardware. And now we've come up on an issue where the ESXi hosts at the recovery site can not be upgraded to the same ESXi version as the protected site (protected site = 5.5 U2, recovery site = 5.1 U3).

The vCenter at the recovery site is the same as the vCenter in the protected site (5.5 U2), and the SRM at both sites is the same (5.5).

Question: that should be OK, right? as long as the vCenter and SRM versions at both sites are the same, I can have different versions of the ESXi hosts, without a problem? (presuming I keep an eye on the VMtools version, and the virtual hardware versions of the VMs, so I don't use anything that isn't supported at the recovery site)

Thanks

All protected LUNS must be shown separately inside SRM Protection Group. But it's not happening !

Hello ,

I installed the latest version of SRM in our environment. We have 2 IBM Storwize v7000 Storage on primary and disaster site. We are using array based replication.

I configured consistency groups for all replicated lun via v7000 storage.  All luns is being replicated succesfully. I installed the Latest IBM Storwize SRA on both SRM server. There is no problem....

Everything is ok. But ; When i try to create protection group on srm, I could not see luns seperately. If you look pictures below you can understand what i mean ;

I have four different  consistent group on v7000.

3.jpg

All SRA was installed succesfully.

1.jpg

I can see all consistent group of v7000 under the SRA via SRM.

2.jpg

THIS IS MY PROBLEM ! All luns must be shown seperately ! But only i see one datastore group ! It must be like on the right side. I want to create different Protection group for all LUNS. But i could not select lun seperately.

who knows that what's wrong ????

HI Folks,

I am having some issue going on with SRM  5.5.1.2 version and after having conversation with VMware  tech support i need to upgrade SRm with version 5.5.1.4.

I dont want to make any changes in my prod SRM instance so I've decided to go with two option and i need feedback that below two opetion is valid as vmware best practice for SRM VM,

1) i can take SRM vm backup using com-vault method and restored in my test lab,i can proceed SRM upgrade in my test lab

2) i can clone SRm vm and disconnect NIC from vm and login vm local admin and upgrade SRM

Thanks,

Can we use, Site Recovery Manager between SAN at one site and Local disk of ESXi on other.

    Hello Friends,

I would like to know if I can use Site Recovery Manager to protect my production setup.

To explain -- Site A (Production)- with two ESXi boxes and connected with SAN(EMC) storages which holds the VMs.

Site B (DR) - with one ESXi box with Local Disks and holds all VMs inside.

Both Site A and Site B are connected with dedicated network link of 10 MB

Both sites are in same city limits.

Kindly someone can explain me if this works to protect my production VMs in case of any disaster.

If this works what products i shall purchase ? only SRM with vSphere Replication will work or something else also i need to purchase.

i have attached a image also for reference.

Thanks in advance.

Installed SRM 5.8 on a separate server from the vCenter, I am accessing the vCenter via webclient from my workstation but I don’t see the SRM icon via webclient. Am I supposed to login to the vCenter server or SRM server and connect to webclient to perform the SRM configuration or can it done from workstation? is there any additional component to be installed on the workstation to see the SRM icon.

Manually removing placeholder VMs when protected VM is deleted

$

We run SRM 5.5. We had some protected VMs we didn't need anymore, so they were deleted from disk (I didn't do it). When I found out about it, I went into SRM and removed protection for these deleted VMs. Most of the placeholder VMs were properly removed by this procedure, however, I still see 2 placeholder VMs for VMs that don't exist anymore. No idea why just these 2 (out of about 6) were not cleaned up.

My question: can I manually just delete these placeholder VMs? They are not in any protection group, or recovery plan. And the protected VMs that correspond to these placeholders no longer exist. It's like they are zombie placeholders. :-)

There shouldn't be any issue with me deleting the placeholder VMs manually, is there?

SRM Script

Hi,

Can I have SRM execute different script for SRM recovery plan test and SRM recovery Plan failover?

For example I have created a script to send the following message when testing

Message: "DR test in Progress and Production will not be effected"

and I have created a script to send the following message when using the same recovery plan for failover (planned and unplanned)

Message: "DR Failover in Progress and Production will be effected for 30 min"

Can this be possible?

Thanks

Simulate Full DR then Reprotect

Setup

vCenter and ESXi 5.5u2

Site Recovery Manager 5.8

EMC Recoverpoint 4.1

VNX Storage

EMC Recoverpoint SRA 2.1

Ok we have done;

1. Full SRM Test Plan - success

2. Actual SRM planned migration from old dc (now recovery site) to new dc (now protected site) - sucess

Now want to run a full DR simulation, i.e. WAN link will be cut and SRM DR invoked in recovery site. We will of course manually power down protected site vms before re establishing the link

Questions I had;

1. Once the new site is up, docs seem to suggest I run planned migration to ensure vm objects are removed from old protected site and storage unmounted in old protected site....what is the impact at this point does RP and VNX know we are running recovery site and not overwrite storage.

  • Do I need to pause replication manually on the recovery RecoverPoint at any point?

2. Then I should run a reprotect to reverse replication from recovery to protected sites.

3. Then do a planned migration and further reprotect.

If i wanted to not reprotect in SRM,any idea on the steps to manually recreate protection
