SRM 5.0 and Netapp VSC 4.1: Backup error

$

I was doing some tests with SRM and noticed that when i do a Failover  and then a Failback all Netapp VSC backups stop working. What i can tell until  now is that after failback the UUID of datastore changes (configured SRM to  not rename the datastore) and the backup job cannot find it.

I  have to remove and add the volumes again in VSC to solve, but with this  i lose all my old backups. Anyone have this problem and is there a way  to solve this?

Thanks

vSphere Replication 5.1.0.1 unable to recovery unavailable VM

Hi,

I have only one vCenter with vSphere Replication 5.1.0.1.

If source VM is unavalibale (disconected host and datastore) I perform recovery of target VM, but task is failed. Recovery is successfully only, if source VM is available.

How can I recover target VM, if source VM is unavailable?

Thanks :-)

SRA FOR DS8100 SRM 5.X

Hello all.

We are in very urgent situation since the release of SRM 5.0 because there was no SRA for the IBM DS8000 series

Recently VMware announced SRA availability for the DS8000 using microcode ver. 7.0 .

IBM told us that this level of  microcode will never be used in DS8100 & DS83000 storages.

How can we overcome this ?

Can we use this SRA with the latest 6.x microcode, or this is not recommended?

Any help will be appreciated

Thanks in advanced

Lets Get Physical ;)

Hi All.....

Im going to be implementing an SRM solution but I also have physicals at my primary site.  Was just wondering what do you people out there do with these.  I want to make the whole Recovery site virtual, so I could P2V the physicals but then there is the question of keeping them updated.  Does this have to be manual or is there some magical process / software that would allow changes in the physical to be replicated to the virtual instance... eg patches, code changes etc.

Cheers

Remove and add new array manager - SRM 4.1

Hi,

We have SRM 4.1 configured with a array manger IP address of EMC solution enabler server which manages EMC symetrix arrays. We have many SRM protection plans setup already. Now we have installed new solution enabler server which has visiblity to the arrays managed by the current solution enabler server and also has visiblity to couple of new arrays. So now i have to replace my old array manager with the new one in SRM.

Can i go to array manager --> "Configure" --> select the old array manager --> click Remove?   Then "Add" new array manager.

Wnated to know when i remove the old array manager and before i add the new array manager, will my existing protection groups crash?

vSphere Replication: exclude Application Log

Hi ,

We want to exclude the Application Log files which is being generated by third party application (not windows) from the replication.

Does vsphere replication has any mechenism to exclude the specific log files from the source VM?

SRM and VNX add array manager "unable to locate enabler"

I'm in the process of setting up SRM 5.1 to work with our EMC VNX arrays.  The arrays are using Mirrorview to replicate the LUN's

I've got SRM installed on a server at each location and successfully paired.  I installed the VNX SRA, the "EMC_VNX_Replicator_Enable_for_VNX_SRA" 5.0.15, "EMC MirrorView Enabler for VNX" 5.0.23, and NaviCLI 7.32.    I used the x64 version for all items, except NaviCLI (only 32bit available)

I did a "rescan SRA" and it detected everything OK.  The support array modles and software are correct..

The problem I'm having is when I try to add the array manager.  I enter the display name, then on the "configure EMC storage connection" I enter IP's for the SPA and SPB, and the credential.

When I click on "next", after a short delay I get "Unable to locate enabler for input connection information.  Verify the Management IP/Hostname and credentials".

I've done some searching and found some site with similar issues, but haven't found any solution.

I will probably open a ticket with EMC, but I'm hoping someone here can help me.

Installing srm 5 in shared mode in site that acts as recovery and protected

Good day!

i have a question regarding installation of srm 5 in shared recovery mode.

Lets say I have site called "MAIN" that protected with SRM 5 . In addition I have 2 additional sites that they VMs need to be consolidated in to the same "MAIN" site. Our managers decided  to perform consolidation with SRM and install it in the "MAIN" as shared recovery site, while it acting as protected in the same time. So question is : is it possible to install Both SRM instances within the same site working against one virtual center , one SRM instance will be protected site and the second instance will act as shared recovery site for 2 additional offices. Thanks a lot in advance for answer

SRM server as part of a protection group

Hi,

I just tried a planned migration with interesting results and I would like to ask you to give me an advice for best practice on that:

- two sites, each with 3 ESXi 5.0 hosts and its own vCenter+SRM server running together on a VM with standalone win2008 r2 sp1 server (not part of a domain)

- each site has its own NetApp box with two primary NFS volumes and two replicas from the other site (snapmirror) plus one non-replicated mini-volume for SRM placeholders

- both primary volumes at each site are covered by protection groups and a recovery plan. It means SRM+vCenter server is part of its own protection group

In a disaster recovery mode, to finish the recovery plan, the vcenter+srm from the protection site has to be started, so it needs to be started on the recovery side.

In planned migration mode, the recovery plan cannot finnish because automated shutdown oh the vcenter+srm on the protected side breaks down the migration.

Distaster recovery is more important than planned migration, so I think that protecting vcenter+srm server by its own measures is all right. But what about the planned migration ? Is there a way to tell the SRM at the protected site to do everything what is needed and then shutdown without errors preventing the recovery plan to be completed from the recovery site ? I hope there is a better solution than to have another pair replicated volume just for the vcenter+srm server. As a workaround now I need to stop the rest of VMs at the protected site manually and re-run the recovery plan in DR mode once for moving to recovery site and then again to tell SRM that the machines were powered off at the protected site before it can advance to reprotection mode, which is far from an ideal solution.

Thanks on advance for comments and suggestions.

different SQL versions in sites

I'm getting ready to install SRM and have requested that databases be created. The database Administrator is asking me if it is ok to use different versions of
MS SQL at the two sites, 2005 SP4 and 2008R2. Is it a requirement that the same database version is used at each site.?

Problem Hitachi SRA

Dear,
I am in process of configuring Site Recovery Manager with Hitachi Storage. When the option to Add Array in Site Recovery Manager, sheds the following error: 'discoverArrays'.

In addition, the SRA is not leaving logs to see what happens, if I have the SRM logs.

Note: We have followed the instructions in the document, but no solution yet.
