I'm noticing that only the WRITE SAME "primitive" appears to be working on our HDS P-VOLs on VSP with microcode 70-02-08/00. EXTENDED COPY and whatever ATS tries to do are failing. I think ATS uses COMPARE AND WRITE, but vmkernel says 0xc0, which I can't find in any SCSI command lists. I did find an HDS AMS2000 microcode document which alludes to 0xc0 being related to ATS though.
ATS returns illegal request and invalid command operation code. XCOPY returns copy aborted and an ASC/ASCQ of 80/00, for which I can't find a reference.
I can't find any documentation, KB articles, or community reports which state or even imply that VAAI functionality may not be compatible with replicated volumes. I'm waiting on our HDS representative to get back to me, but I don't know how long that will take or if he'll come up with anything. Has anyone experienced similar behavior with HDS or any other vendor's storage?
