I am having an issue where I cannot get the SRM sites to pair, we are running 5.1 update 1 for everything and the corresponding SRM release. I tend to think part of the problem is SSO seems to be slow. We tend to have problems with authentication where it will just time out sometimes. I am waiting for support to look at the logs but thought I would post the question here. Network latency between sites is LAN speed ( basically no latency) and all performance for both Servers is normal. SRM is loaded on the same server as vCenter. Basically when you try and run the pair it gets through the second step of Authentication ( even though it takes a while) then when it tries to pair (The complete connections step) sometimes it will make it through connecting to the vCenter and cert validation for it but fail at connecting to the SRM instance then sometimes it will fail right at the beginning and not connect to the vCenter. The error says that it timed out waiting for a response from host but gives it's own IP. Looking in the logs the only kind of error I ever see is 08284 error 'SoapAdapter.HTTPService' ] Failed to read request; stream: <SSL(io_obj p:0x0000000006e1b0c8, h:2504, <TCP 'local server IP:8095'>, <TCP 'local server IP:51120">>)>, error: class vmacore::SystemException(An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine) . Otherwise in the log it shows probing for the other VC and finding it and its certificate but the actual pairing fails, no authentication errors being denied or anything. Have tried looking around and cannot find anything with that error for pairing.
Hi all,
I saw an odd error message when installing SRM 5.11 to Windows Server 2008 R2.
The message was shown up during database creation step and it says:
Failed to create database tables.
Details:
There was an error during execution: Invalid argument:
'C:\Users\myusername\AppData\Local\VMware' is not a directory
Press Retry to try again or press Cancel to exit installation
Have anyone seen it?
Hi Team, I have 3 esxi5.0 hosts running on IBM servers using netapp FCOE storage. We are configuring SRM for fail over to DR site. we have about 20VM. 3 or them are MSSQL and the rest are application servers. we found the snapshot is more than 25GB every day created in SAN ,which means data changes of the OS VMDK is too large. it's not SQL data because the data is in RDM disks and not in the datastore. I am wondering what caused so large data changes because the OS suppose has no changes everyday, or very minimum. Is there a way to reduce this to less than 1GB? because the large data change will take too long time to sync to DR site via a very limited WAN link. or is the memory of VMs got changes? I tried to change the memory reservation to 4GB for one VM,but got an error ,though the other VM changes had no issue. the host has 64GB memory and assigned 50GB to the VMs and still have some un-assigned. resource should be enough.
error is
Reconfigure virtual machine
myappserver1
Insufficient resources to satisfy configured
failover level for vSphere HA.
any advice please?Thanks so much!

KF
Hi,
Changing RPO in VM kicks initial replication process in SRM 5.1.
Is this normal?, I just want to change RPO setting that's all.
Thanks,
Ne0
Hoping someone can give some advice.
Im setting up SRM with vSphere replication. The storage layout is at a simple level :
Protected site
1 x vCenter managing
2 x ESXi Hosts in subnetA with its own datastores presented (2 x datatores 500GB each)
5 x VMs of 50GB each
2 x ESXi Hosts in subnetB with its own datastores presented (2 x datasores 500GB each)
5 x VM's of 50GB each
In additon to this there are also the SRM, VRS and VRM servers at both sites for vSphere replication.
The hosts in subnet A and B cannot see each others datastores. This is done by zoning on the fabric.
Recovery Site
Same as protected site but with ony 1 ESXi host in each of the subnets and 1 x datastore for each subnet at 500GB.
A subset of servers hosted in both subnets have been selected for protection.
My question is around storage. When an SRM test is run I understand that a snapshot of the LUN is made. So I want to run an SRM test on a VM located in subnet A. Do I have to provide another 500GB LUN just for SRM testing for the snapshot to go into ? or is it a smaller LUN I need to make available ?
Any documentation on what happens at a storage level on an SRM test with vsphere replication would be appreciated.

hi guys
a customer has Site Recovery Manager 5.1 installed and has two groups of VMs.
Let 's say VMs operations 1 and operations 2.
Right now they have a plan for disaster recovery for operations 1 and in case of failures they send operations 1 VMs to the paired SRM in the same country.
Now they want to send operations 2 in case of disaster recovery to another country in fact to our datacenter.... so my questions
can my customer paired its current SRM to two SRMs? and in case of their DC failure send to both different SRMs? operations 1 to his Disaster recovery DC and to DC in another country
I know I need at least 1 new ESXi in our DC (and of course a VC and SRM instances).
thanks guys.
Hi All,
We have virtual machine with three 500 GB data disk, OS disk with 80 GB.
It is server 2012 server with vSphere Replication enabled, SRM replicates data fine.
But when we try to do test recover it works fine some time but some time we get error "Configuring storage error" or" Time out error during configuring storage".
I am not sure which log file will have information why it works fine some time and not other times.
We do not have issues with any other VR replicated servers when we try to recover.
Thanks

Received this error "Java 7 must be installed before installing EMC recoverpoint storage adapter" when installing EMC RP SRA 2.2.
Steps:
1) Installed Java 7. Error still.
2) uninstalled java 6 and 7, reboot, reinstall 7 from java site. Error still.
3) right click on RP SRA and install as admin. Error still
4) Found SRA logfile in localsettings\temp\2\MSI673b8.log. log file said it Looked for "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment" then a few lines later thew the error
5) checked registry... no HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment
6) installed jre-7u40-windows-x64.exe from IE
7) still no HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment
8) uninstalled java 7 and rebooted
9) right click on jre-7u40-windows-x64.exe and run as administrator. Checked registry and had HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment this time
10) right click on RP SRA and install as admin.
8-10 is probably all that is needed.
Opened a ticket with EMC before I found the log file. Still have not heard back but will let them know also.
Hopefully this helps
Cheers,
JBMORE
All,
I tried Google but I was not able to how to Change cluster and node IP on 2003 NLB cluster.
I need to do this on SRM recovered VM, as any one done this before?
Thanks,

Hi
I wonder if anyone can help.
I have a client who has SRM which has now been down for five days due to the issue below
I have replaced the certs on two vCenter deployments with trusted certs. The problem I have now is that SRM will not work as it requires trusted certs if vCenter uses them.
I have Microsoft Certificate Services deployed here.
I know that SRM has particular requirements for trusted certs such as san names and the OU names being the same as the vcenter cert.
I have used the link below to try and create the certs required but this is for openssl ca's and not Microsoft ones. The author has said that he has not tried it with a Microsoft CA
Creating Certificates for VMware SRM or vCenter using openSSL made easy, with Video!
When I submit the request using openssl and a Microsoft CA I don't get the san name in the certificate and when I try to re-install SRM it complains saying that cannot see the san name in the cert.
So my question is has anyone attempted to generate trusted certs using Microsoft Certificate Services as the official documentation VMware provides on this is vaugue.
I have logged a support call with VMware but I am hitting a brick wall on this one
Hi All
We have a primary and DR site, bith sites have 5 ESXi 5.0 hosts and a separate Vcentre. We are running SRM 5.0
Storage is EMC VNX 5500, we are replicating asynchronously with snap mirror.
We done a full SRM testing using a test LUN / Protection group at the weekend as we are planning a full DR test shortly, we chose the full test but slected the planned option (we did not want to do the isolated test where it does a snapshot and ring fences it)
.
Everything went fine, we failed the VM's over to our DR site, tested then after 20 minutes we re-protected and failed them back to our primary site.
2 Questions I have are
A, it took 8 minutes to fail them over but 25 minutes to fail them back, seemed to spend a fair amount of time on stage “Preparing the protected VM’s for migration” , what's actually happening under the hood at this stage?
B. After everything has been completed I looked a Vcentre and I see that the test LUN which was originally called TESTSRMLUN01 (original I know) however it is now called "snap-433ad3a8-TESTSRMLUN01", also on our DR side there is a LUN of the same name but status inactive, why has it renamed the Datastore and also why would the datastore still be showing on our DR side Vcentre, I would have thought as part of the reprotect and failback we did the LUN would have been de presented to DR side
Thanks
Nick
I publish this problem and its resolution in a hope that it will help others. A few months after the installation the HBR component of the SRM partly failed. Our setup has one VRMS and two VRS appliances, and a few dozens of replicated VMs. One third of the replications stuck and it turned out that all of them were handled by the VRMS appliance at the destination site.
The source ESXi hosts logged a lot of refused connections to the VRMS appliance. Because of this I suspected firewall misconfiguration, but tcpdump proved that TCP requests arrive to the appliance and refused by it. Finally it turned out that the hbrsrv daemon doesn't run on the VRMS so TCP ports 34031 andd 44046 are closed.
I tried to start hbrsrv manually on the appliance with the "/etc/init.d/hbrsrv restart" command, no success. However, the appliance logged the following lines to the /var/log/messages:
Sep 17 13:34:42 xxxxx watchdog-hbrsrv: [8818] Begin 'cgexec -g memory:/hbrsrv /usr/bin/hbrsrv --daemon --pidfile /var/run/vmware/hbrsrv.pid --vmodlport 8123 --lwdport 31031,44046', min-uptime = 60, max-quick-failures = 5, max-total-failures = 1000000, bg_pid_file = '/var/run/vmware/hbrsrv.pid'
Sep 17 13:34:42 xxxxx watchdog-hbrsrv: [8818] Executing 'cgexec -g memory:/hbrsrv /usr/bin/hbrsrv --daemon --pidfile /var/run/vmware/hbrsrv.pid --vmodlport 8123 --lwdport 31031,44046'
Sep 17 13:34:42 xxxxx su: FAILED SU (to hbrsrv) root on none
And the last line was the key to the solution. I checked the hbrsrv account:
xxxxx:/var/log # chage -l hbrsrv
Minimum: 1
Maximum: 90
Warning: 7
Inactive: -1
Last Change: Jun 05, 2013
Password Expires: Sep 03, 2013
Password Inactive: Never
Account Expires: Never
Yes, the account expired. I changed the account to never-expire with "chage hbrsrv", rebooted the VRMS appliance and all stuck replication started to work. Just to be on the safe side I checked the same account on the VRS appliances but both of them was set to Never expire.
Is there anybody here with similar experiences? Our VRMS is version 5.1.1.0 Build 1079383
Hello,
One customer have a SRM installation where default schema is dbo!!
database name: SRM
database user: SRM
default schema for database user: dbo
Sql authentication: mixed
One server for sql server and another server for srm services
He tell me that srm installation was sucesfull and srm works with no problem, is necessary created a schema named srm?
I dont understand anything!! and now he wants upgrade srm to 5.1...
Since this is a core vmware product, one would think SRM shold run in the AMP cluster. But this has very limited resources.
Is there a best practise for where to run SRM on a vBlock?
Thanks!
Tom
Hi All,
When I do test recovery on my VMs, on some of them I see VMware tools been installed/updated.
I am not sure if SRM or some thing else is trying to installing VMware tools.
Thanks,
Ne0
Total protected virtual machines is 1000 what it means if their license is saying unlimited in enterprise edition of SRM check this link please

I have an SRM environment with SRM server. I want to consume srm webservice using soap client for which i need srm.wsdl.
But i dont know what is the url for srm.wsdl or at which port this webservice is published.
Does anybody know where should i look for the webservice deployment folder or the url for the same.
Thanks.
Hi everyone,
Is it possible to have SRM with three sites: A, B and C configured with bi-directional failover between A<-->B and B<-->C. Or is there any other way to support three sites besides using a Shared Recovery Site configuration?
Jose
After trying all of the user accounts I can think of under the sun, I wasn't able to pass the step where I need to authenticate with the virtual center where SRM will be managed. Are there any restrictions that applies? I have virtual center 5.1 installed in a separte server than SRM and SSO. Is there a document that can shine some light on this? I can't seem to find the right account to use in the step on the screenshot attached.
Thanks
